A serving is still defined as 8oz, and the Java Monster can says it contains "about 2" servings.Content on this site is for reference purposes only. I should mention that regular Monster comes in 16oz cans, while Java Monster comes in 15oz cans. My guess is the coffee flavoring made it less necessary to load on the sugar to make it palatable. A several-year period of caffeine addiction (now broken) has left me with a muted response to such stimulants, and the taste alone can't justify the purchase.įrom the nutritional information section, there doesn't seem to be any real difference between Monster energy drinks except for a surprising reduction in sugar for the Java brand. Unfortunately the vaunted kick that energy drinks are so renowned for simply isn't there for me either. No foam, extra hot, half-caf, no-whip, soy latte. Much like the delicious Starbucks Frappuccino, another one of my favorite coffee-based drinks, I simply can't justify purchasing them regularly at their current price. Coffee & cream with killer flavor Half the caffeine, twice the buzz Coffee done the Monster way. While an interesting taste sensation, energy drinks are ridiculously expensive at $2.29 a can and I have no intention of buying them regularly. So when selecting an energy drink, I'd recommend going by flavor for its own sake rather than any promise of what it implies, since it doesn't seem to deliver. But the flavor is misleading, it has no actual extra kick to show for it. Interestingly, the more strongly coffee-flavored Mean Bean is the one with "natural flavors" farthest down the list. The biggest difference is that the sixth, seventh and eighth ingredients, while still identical, are just switched around. The first five ingredients in the list are identical in both name and order. Upon close comparison of the Java Monster flavors, it becomes clear that they are, chemically, nearly identical drinks. Loca Moca tastes more like Originale, but with a delicate hint of chocolate mixed in, just enough that it doesn't clash with the coffee taste. In fact, I will go so far as to say the lack of aftertaste made Java Monster Mean Bean my favorite energy drink of all, as it's the only one of any brand I've tried that manages to do this. Mean Bean is more strongly coffee flavored and its energy drink aftertaste is barely perceptible, making it my preferred selection of the pair. The main difference between Java Monster Originale and Java Monster Mean Bean is that Originale is less strongly coffee flavored (it's barely there), and has a stronger energy drink aftertaste. So it appears to be nothing more than flavoring. Unfortunately, analysis of the ingredients reveals no more or less caffeine than any other Monster flavor, buried within the 2500mg of "energy blend" in all their products. All three flavors of Java Monster feature a prominent coffee flavor, promising you that extra kick in the pants you're sucking down an energy drink for in the first place. I generally don't like Mocha but some versions of it can be pretty good, so I gave it a shot. This time it lead me to try Java Monster Originale, Java Monster Mean Bean, and Java Monster Loca Moca. Occasionally this leads to discoveries like the Wendy's Frosty-cino, a marketing gimmick to combine the success of the Frosty with the current coffee fad that is so cynical it couldn't help but succeed. However, due to various personal failings, I have a compulsion to drink anything that tastes or even claims to taste like coffee. This isn't surprising, as most energy drinks of any brand taste almost exactly like a candy necklace that's been sitting on your counter for 2 weeks before you remember to eat it. The popular Monster line of energy drinks includes a number of flavors, most of which taste like stale candy. "Half the caffeine of regular coffee, Twice the Buzz!" Spamsieve spam folder server9/28/2023 ![]() But none of them have ever been the exact right fit. Apple prefers to take a minimal approach to the amount of knob-twiddling and settings-fiddling you can do with its most basic applications. Some of them have their flaws, but they make my daily ‘net experience better than anything I could get out of the box my Mac came in: That said, here are five Internet applications I will not ever take off any Mac I own. What it does: SpamSieve works with most major Apple mail clients as a spam filter. It can be trained to learn which spam it has missed and which good mail (“ham”) it has wrongly identified. Why I use it: Coming from the Linux world, I was used to SpamAssassin. At the time, client-side spam filtering was somewhat rare in the Linux world, so I was initially put off at the idea of paying for a client-side program. I probably would have continued to think that way if Apple hadn’t included a spam filter in Mail. I tried Apple’s filter, but it developed a curious tic a lot of other users noted in earlier versions: After a while it became convinced lots of mail was spam that simply wasn’t. It was pretty good right out of the box.Spam filters that generate a lot of false positives are, in many ways, much worse than spam filters that miss a lot of spam.Įven though Mail’s filter was letting me down, I had gotten used to the convenience of client-side whitelisting and training without writing elaborate Applescript to pipe messages into a SpamAssassin installation up on my mail server. Training it is easy: Two hotkeys allow the user to identify missed spam or teach SpamSieve to recognize mail that isn’t spam after all.Nowhere near perfect, but it got a lot of spam without being trained. It has a simple and convenient slider interface. If you think it’s being too aggressive, you can tell it to back off a little and let more suspected spam through. If it’s not catching enough, you can turn it up. If you sort your spam box by label color and remember to train SpamSieve, you can eventually stop worrying about picking through most of the spam it identifies because the false positives almost always end up very near the top of the list, with the obvious spam sitting at the bottom. If SpamSieve has one drawback, it’s one common to every client-side filter: The machine you’re running it on has to give up memory and processor time to examine each message. By running SpamAssassin on my server and letting it handle the worst spam, SpamSieve works really well as mop-up for borderline cases. It’s much easier to tune in that role, too. What it does: Pith Helmet is “an extended site preferences and ad blocking plug-in.” It also offers capabilities similar to those provided by the Firefox add-on Greasemonkey. I don’t know what you think of ad blocking. I don’t think it’s fair to blow off sites dependent on ad revenue with comments like “get a new business model.” But because I’ve been using operating systems besides Windows for years, I’m acutely aware of how hard some sites can be on browsers that aren’t Internet Explorer, and how poorly optimized content plugins like Flash can be. ![]() I also draw the line at popups and popunders. So for someone like me, who will generally tolerate ads but sometimes wants to control them, Pith Helmet is perfect. ![]() Pith Helmet is a Safari add-on, though it can also work with other browsers that use Safari’s Web-rendering engine. Its basic functions are ad-blocking and cookie control, but it is remarkably fine-grained.įor instance, perhaps you visit a site regularly where the ads are tolerable and you want to support the site by letting it claim your ad impressions, but its Javascript makes Safari crash, or just doesn’t work. With Pith Helmet, you can create a site-specific rule that turns off ad blocking and also turns off Javascript. Or maybe you visit a site that uses an ad server that’s frequently down and stuffs up page downloads. Too bad "When erased on client" is not present - it should be (Apple, are you listening?)ġ2" PB G4/1.2GHz- Mac Book Pro - 12" iB G3/500 MHz - PowerMac G4/450 MHz Mac OS X (10.4.With Pith Helmet, you can write a rule that targets only ad content from that server. "When erased on client" is not one of the choices. Has a menu with choices of when to remove messages from the server, but (PS I do want to keep the good mail on the server, at least for some time.) How do I accomplish that with Mail and SpamSieve? ![]() Still I find my junk mails in my account on the mail server, eg when using mail through the web.īefore, I used Eudora with SpamSieve, and it would delete the junk mail on the server too (actually immediately on detection). SpamSieve moves junk mail to the Spamįolder, from where I delete it (move to Trash, and empty trash (erase deleted messages in all accounts).

I have no idea how much a forklift burns an hour, but I'm sure a tank will last me a long time. ![]() Yes I'm sure it's safer to have it filled for me but I just like the convenience of doing my own bottle filling. Can I buy an adaptor for these or should I just go & pay retail for a refill. I got my used forklift a couple weeks ago & was going to refill its propane bottle today but was disappointed to see it has a different type of fill fitting then for my grill bottles. I'm just careful how I do it & cautious not to over fill them. I've been filling my own gas grill propane bottles for over 15 years now with no problems.
